Some of my icons look funny, Is there a way to rebuild the desktop in OS X (Panther)?

William,
First thing I would try is restarting in Single-User Mode and running the fsck command (file system check). You can boot into the Mac’s raw Unix underlayer to perform some diagnostic and healing commands. If you press Command-S when you restart the system, Mac OS X brings up a whole UNIX-based code window. When it stops at the localhost # prompt, type sbin/fsck -y if your system is not Journaled or type sbin/fsck -f if your system is Journaled. A system check program takes over and will tell you if your drive needs repair. Most of the time if it finds a problem it will fix it. It’s the UNIX version of a desktop rebuild, a quick Disk Doctor. Once the diagnostic is done running it will tell you if your system appears ok or if it has fixed found problems. After the localhost # prompt type exit and then hit the enter key. This will continue the boot up process and hopefully bring your icons back.
