Hi, What are the precautions I should take before selling an ibook. I am selling my G3 as I got a G4. How do I make sure no one gets to my info in my old ibook? I use os X in a g3 ibook. Thanks

Dear Kanna,
My name is Vinko and I will attempt to answer your question.
You can use the Apple "Disk Utility" application to wipe the hard drive clean prior to reselling.
Please following the following steps:
1. Boot your iBook G3 with the Apple "Software Recovery CD" that came with your computer.
2. From the Menu (sorry I cannot remember which one), there should be a menu item to allow you to start Disk Utility.
3. From within Disk Utility, choose your iBook's internal Hard Drive or Volume.
4. Click on the "Erase" panel at the top.
5. Ensure that you have at least the "Zero Out Deleted Files" option chosen in the "Erase Free Space..." option.
6. Ensure that you have at least the "Zero Out Data" option chosen in the "Security Options..." option.
7. Click on Erase.
Now quit Disk Utility and you should be brought back to the Installer to allow you to recover the state of your computer. This will bring your iBook to the factory state, as if you had just received it from Apple.
Which options in the "Erase Free Space..." and "Security Options..." options to use depends on how paranoid you are. The "Zero Data" option is the minimal to prevent any recover of your old data. The other will just make it even harder.
I hope this helps.
