Description:
I am impressed by the iMac but am concerned by the apparent lack of peripheral connectivity. I currently have a 486 PC notebook, and no other computer hardware worth keeping. I need to get a (hopefully inexpensive) laserjet type printer which will work with the 486 and also with my new computer (as yet not purchased). I also need to be able to use floppies with the new computer. I have found that for about $160 I can take care of the floppy problem with the iMac (using the Superdisk). No one has been able to help me with the laser jet problem - can you tell me how to get the iMac to talk to a currently available low end laserjet?

Thanks!

Eric,

As usual there are many solutions to this problem. One is to get a laserjet
that allows connection to an ethernet. Simply connect everything to a hub and
get the appropriate software and start printing. However, don't expect to do
this with the "low end" printers.

Next you may wish to try a product called "DAVE" (http://www.thursby.com/).
DAVE is a Macintosh/Wintel communication tool. I have used it very successfully
for file sharing. Thursby Software claims it will all so support printing to any
shared postscript printer (I personally have not tried this).

Good Luck,
