RAM Enhancer: None
OS Version: MacOS 8
Description:
Hi,
My friends computer is down.
She was copying to a floppy disc and received a type 11 error [she is running os 8, I thought that they're weren't any type 11 errors in system 8].
We could only start with extentions off and when we did a floppy icon appeared on the startup screen before the happy mac icon, nothing was in any drive.
Restarted from cd by holding down c key at restart
Ran nortons 3.5.2, from a zip drive, with some minor repairs.
Restarted with same problems - floppy icon before the happy mac icon and type 11 error.
Restarted again from cd and replaced finder, finder prefs.

Restarted again from cd and replaced finder, finder prefs and system.
Restarted no floppy icon this time, but now after all the extentions load we get a type 41 error.
Now we can't startup with or without extentions off or from a cd.
What do we do?
Her tech-guy is away for two weeks.
HELP PLEASE!!!
Bob

Hi Bob, welcome to Nowonder, I'm robertw.
See if you can start from the CD again. Put the CD in, then hold the "Command-Shift-Option-Delete" keys down all at the same time. This will bypass the startup disk. If you can get it started, back up your files, and initialize the hard drive. Type 11 errors could either be hardware or software. If you can initialize the disk and restore the system and everything works ok, then you have a software problem. If you get it started and can initialize or reinstall the system, you most likely have a bad hard drive.
