Installing Mac OS X starts to boot from CD then freezes

Installing Mac OS X 10.1.2 Mac starts to boot from CD then freezes with
Color wheel in corner of monitor?

G4 450 DP AGP
RAM 640
OS X 10.1.2 CD (says imac on disk, Grey)
30gb HD

I read a bunch about Os x installation, but I can’t seem to nail down my problem.
I don’t get a Broken folder icon when trying to boot the G4 it just freezes..

I am thinking…

1.CD for imac only (can’t be used with G4) what is the difference in cd’s?
2.My Pro Tools Mix card on PCI buss.
3.Agp Graphics card (standard ATI 128)
4.g4 firmware problem.
5.I suck and need to buy Os x for g4 ??

Correct. Apple ships discs that are specific to the machines they ship with.

Buy the retail version.

And if you buy the retail version, you'll be able to get Tiger. Consider that 10.1.x has limited support from developers, and even that's dwindling. If you want to save some money, skip Tiger and get Panther (10.3.x).
