    Hi,

Is it possible to format an external hard drive so I have a mac formatted partition and an NTFS partition and maybe a FAT32 as well??

I am using the drive on the mac side for audio samples and backup, NTFS for windows stuff, and fat32 to share.

Can anyone advise how I can do this? I have tried but not had any luck.

I would like the mac partition to come first on the drive also.

    Many thanks

What and how did you try? I'd do it like this:

1.) Partition on Windows. First partition FAT32, second NTFS, third FAT32.
2.) Reformat first partition to HFS+ Extended on a Mac.
Done. Should be. Never tried, though. :)

Well in you case a little investment and you can teach Windows to conform to Mac. Just download/buy (for your PC) the application MacDrive. This way you can format the drive HFS+ and Windows will be able to handle it with no problem just like any drive.

I have HFS+, NTFS and XFS (a Linux filesystem) on my Lacie BIG (600gb).
It was quite hard, but I guess I partitioned the disk using Disk Utility on
Mac, so I could check the partition id of the Mac partition. Then I partitioned
the disk on Linux and marked partitions as Mac, Linux and Windows.
Each operating system saw their own partitions.
