OSX Login items fail to launch

My OSX login items fail to start when I login. I have added a number of programs including Quicksilver, Salling Clicker, Yahoo Widget Engine and Mail. I have a small server with a drive which I also want to connect automatically, and added that.

All these items appear listed in the Login Items panel under my user name in System Preferences - but nothing happens when I log in and I have to start them all manually.

I tried setting up another user but it doesn't work for them either.

My OSXVNC starts but that is a startup item rather than a login item, which I understand is handled separately (it doesn't appear in the Login Items).

Since its happening on two accounts, something is probably going on with launchd. Check the log files and see if launchd is reporting anything. It may just be a simple permission issue.
