There is no Mac OS X spyware currently -- that's not to say that there ever will be, but for now, we're safe and your admin is mistaken (although it may not be wise to inform him/her in that way ;) ). Have you been running any network-intensive programs? BitTorrent? LimeWire? Acquisition? Perhaps he was detecting some Adobe application "phoning home?"

Since updating to OS X 10.3.9 i have been having trouble with receiving ftp files. I am connected to a 2mbps cable via a router and am downloading from clients at around 3kbs at most. the programmes i am using are Transmit and Acquisition. Sorry, you're right. I have OS X.3.6 (Panther). iChat does support proxy servers. At my work, it is a HTTP proxy server with port 8080. However, it seems that some services might not work thru this port, since text chat works fine. Anyhow, it is quite bizarre that this same thing happens with Yahoo! Messenger (text chat works ok, but sending files might even hang the appz)....
