It's not a "pro" solution. It's quite easy. 1) Open "Terminal.app", found in /Applications. 2) Copy the following three lines of code: /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/\ Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister \ -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user (just highlight the three lines and press command-c) 3) In the...

To my understanding, yes. I do not have the "Deluxe," so I do not know if it makes what is an eDrive which is a small partition on your hard drive that you can boot on. For the reasons described, that is why it is the preferred method of running the program. If it does not, you could consider loading it on an external drive and using that to repair your internal drive. ...

Maybe by the way the files are transferred--but I leave that to a Guru. For example: if you have a fragmented HD and then transfer to the Ex-Drive the Ex-HD is not as fragmented. Disk Utility should fix validate and repair volume problems. I have not had TT fail to fix a volume unless I frelled it beyond hope--then I have had to do a re-install. Disk Warrior is also...

Hmmm . . . hath thee done any basic maintenance, such as use Onyx--freeware--or Cocktail? Those programs allow you to do such without entering into Terminal. I have had a similar problem--but not to that extent. Maintenance handled it. You can also boot-up under your Installation Disks --> Disk Utility --> and see what it says about the HD. Does it say it has that...

Hrrrrmmmm . . . if you are going to spend the money on Leopard you might as well consider a few other things. I am not certain that Archive and Install will work for with Leopard since you were on Tiger. A Guru may correct me on that. However, there is a chance its Disk Utility will fix what is wrong with your volume. But hold that point. There is a slight . . ....

and reset the NVRAM. I switched USB ports. I ran both Cocktail and Applejack. I've repaired permissions. I tried creating another account, and that worked, but I need this to work in the current account. ...

have not done any maintenance. So I would suggest you get the freeware Onyx which will run the maintenance scripts including permission repair, or the shareware Cocktail which will do the same thing, but you can grade the amount of maintenance. ...

P.S. You can also add the freeware Onyx for general maintenance. Cocktail is good but is a shareware. ...

I use to use Preferential Treatment until I realized it is not--or was not when I had it--a maintenance program: you do not need to routinely repair permissions. Disk Warrior will repair permissions, check files, and optimize your volume. Similarly, TechTools will check your files, check your volume, optimize your volume, and defragment your HD--along with running hardware...
