I am assuming you have verified/repaired permissions. What is the S.M.A.R.T status of you hard drive (Applications/Utilities/Disc Utility)? If it is OK, you could try some repair software: DiskWarrior - $100 TechTool Pro - $100 Cocktail - $15 Applejack - Free

Create another account and check if that works up to speed. if so, the account is the problem (like trying to authenticate to the outside world). If the problem persists, something might be wrong with the hardware (similar problem was cause by a bad harddrive, whatever i did to minutes to complete). Good luck, Kees
