Faxing from OS X?

Those efax type services work alright, but you'll be spending some $$$ on a subscription plan or a per fax basis to send & receive. They've become highly popular with some business people (REALTORS®, Mortgage Brokers, RE Investors, etc.)...so finding one that's free with any "abilities" is almost impossible. You'll have to pay for it. Some others include: VirtualFax...

Tiger Preview.app is BROKEN!!

I use the service eFax. The faxes I get come into my email as a single tiff file. This tiff file can have multiple pages. The old version (pre Tiger) of Preview would open and print these with no problem. Tiger's version of Preview will open them, but will not print them...won't even properly convert them to a PDF. My solution so far, was to get Preview.app off one of my...

Free Mac Minis :) or iPod Shuffle

I thought about doing that, since I have about 10 email addresses, but I thought they might check on it since you need a credit card to sign up for all this stuff. A good one I found was the eFax. Free 30 day trial and they don't charge anything till after 30 days. You can cancel before then so you don't end up paying anything.

Fax and DSL

Thanks for all your imput. I am familiar with the whole splitter/filter issue. I just hadn't thought it through, or I would have realized I could run the line directly to the other phone port in my G4. I do have a fax machine, which I use to occasionally send faxes. The majority of my need is to recieve faxes, and I would prefer to have them stored on the HD. I use efax,...

Fax and DSL

I m running on OS 10.28 and connect with dsl. Is there a way to accept faxes while not online that will bypass the dl? I ralize there is fax softtware in my OS, but don't want to continually switch my phone lines from modem to tower when I recieve a fax. (Not to mention that I usually don't know when I am getting one!) I am currently using efax, which is ok, but I'd prefer...

Built-in fax: where's the demand?

I use eFax. (efax.com). It's a fairly minimal fee and works great, right through email. You simply email to the fax number. Cool. It has converted any file I have thrown at it so far (docs/pdfs/jpgs/tifs/etc.). Far better and faster than tieing up a phone line. Though with a small price. Admittedly, it does have a downside (which applis to Apple's method as well), which is...

Pagesender screwing up! Wanting to set clock back an hour!

A friend of mine's G4 with Smile's PageSender is acting really weird and I'm at a loss. Every time she sends a fax, the Finder pops up and wants to set the clock back one hour. If she says OK, it'd would send, until recently. Now it's just stopped working entirely, which is really fscking up her business. The tech support at Smile Software is completely clueless, but...
