You will find GraphicConverter here: http://www.lemkesoft.com/ . GraphicConverter is by far the best shareware for MacOS, it could/should be part of the standard package. iPhoto can do part of what you want to. For a few more $$$ you can get Photoshop Elements.

Mmm, I see bbloke. I'm on IMac now after having been on a G350 Blue for so long (leopard... French version). Let the world know, by the way. As Fats Waller once sang in one of his songs. Night & day, of course. Still trying to understand the ins and outs. I lost photoshop from the old but am back on QuarkXpress. The local Apple Store in Paris brought us out of the dark ages...

Hi reed. I used Photoshop, essentially. I used the crop tool, while holding down shift to keep the selection square as I expanded it. Once I had an area I liked, I cropped it and then scaled down the image size to 50x50 pixels. GraphicConverter- I would rather not have to pay for a program to do this, also.. after i click "try it" a text file in Spanish pops up, and I'm not sure what it's instructing me to do. Photoshop: I created a background layer behind the image (both layers appeared transparent, i could see the checkerboard photoshop bg) and saved it as forced for web. Could not find "save...

GraphicConverter can do it. Select the part you want to make transparent, and then just select "Make Selection Transparent" from the Edit menu. Photoshop can work, too. The key in Photoshop is to hide the background layer. That way the transparent parts of the other layer(s) will actually be transparent. I usually use the "Save for Web" option ot make gifs. GIMP is your...

the way you want them organized, and you don't need to use iPhoto's other features, then consider using the Finder to put all your photos into one folder and use GraphicConverter to organize and display them. ...
Mac OS X System & Mac Software - Posts: 9 - Nov 28, 2006
At the moment, I'm considering buying GraphicConverter. It does what I need it to do, and I thought it would be a good idea to support the developer. Before I do that though, I'd like to know if there is any program out there similar/comparable to GraphicConverter? I am aware of Seashore and GIMP. Seashore isn't comparable in features, and GIMP is a usability nightmare....
