In InDesign I often want to use a gradient which starts with a opaque colour and ends with no colour (ie. transparent). Is there a way to do this in ID... it doesn't seem to work? So far, I've been making and exporting the gradients from photoshop, but it's a bit naff.

I am outputting a large file which has images which use a drop shadow applied directly in InDesign. The digital proofs that have come back from the printer show a noticeable change in weight of the text surrounding the image, where the image box interacts with the underlying text.
