Good uses for old Macs

I use a G3 at work as a web server/print server. and I also use one at home as a media server which streams all my tunes to XBMC (xbox media centre) G3's are great machines P.S. Both G3's run MAMP and my stripped version of tiger (no dock, dashboard, and OpenGL effects e.t.c)

No localhost in MAMP

Try this: Click on the server tab in Mamp. click on the select MySQL root password. create one; for the example I'll call it "password", then, your php code must start like this:

Regardless of whether or not XAMPP uses MAMP, I don't appear to have to be fiddling with the terminal shell, so thank you for the tip. The point of getting an Apache server is so that I can learn php, and I now have it where it appears I can test php files.

for Apache or if you made adjustments to any of the PHP installs for MAMP, be sure to at least keep a copy of those files. But, if you experiencing problems with MAMP perhaps you won't want to use the same configuration files. Keeping a copy of those files somewhere else for now won't hurt. ...
