I don't find that Halime crashes very often at all. Always room for improvement, of course. With regard to group files, are you referring to your subscription file? If so, mine is only 12Kb. If you are referring to the storage of your viewed posts, if they contain binaries, of COURSE they are going to add up. More on that below. It COULD handle offline posts more...

I use a combination of MT-Newswatcher and Thoth. I just use Thoth for downloading binaries. I use MT-Newswatcher for posting messages and viewing attachments. I think MT-Newswatcher is the easiest Usenet client available but it has it's share of issues.
