I am having the same problem. Bought the mpeg 2 codec, which allowed me to view videos taken by my sony handycam but doesn't play any sound. Is there any easier way than to "demux" it to get it to play sound? I can play them with the VLC player but still can't import them into imovie to edit them.

i think i got it from download.com...its the older 6.7.2 dvix. i was told its the only one that would work for my operating system. i dont know if i even need dvix...im trying to get avi files to play on my quicktime. other video file types work but not avi files. any idea why?

Video's are in the same format, i think Mpeg-4. Will need to check this. Definitely in the same format. They were obtained from the same location. I thought about plug-ins. Running the same versions of Quicktime on both machines so they should have exactly the same plug-ins. Shouldn't they ???
