If its not the one for that machine, it either won't boot the machine or take you to the beginning of the installion then tell you its not the right disk. Sounds like the HD is toast. I hope you had a backup or didn't care about the data. During the boot picker you said it showed the HD as a selection but not the CD. Are you sure it maybe it wasn't showing the HD and was showing the CD?

You can use Handbrake to convert the MKV file to a format that's compatible with Toast/Popcorn, then use Toast/Popcorn to burn the file to a DVD. Handbrake won't get you directly from an MKV to a VIDEO_TS folder -- but it will (as far as I know) convert an MKV file to an MP4 or AVI and embed subtitles (under the "Audio & Subtitles" section), and then you can take the...

Use any number of programs (VisualHub, Handbrake, Toast, Popcorn, etc.) to convert the MKV to a VIDEO_TS folder. Burn VIDEO_TS folder in the appropriate format to a DVD. Watch DVD.

No dice. Still can't read the DVD Video I just burnt. I even tried to burn it from img in Toast. Suprisingly I can burn VCD but the quality is so bad. For info I am using MacPro MacOS 10.4.11
