VNC

Thanks for the tip with tight VNC -- this looks cool. I will now have to upgrade all of my boxes (solaris, linux, mac osx, win xp, openbsd) to it....I cant live without VNC, greatest thing since sliced bread. Now if Epson would only listen to the griping and whining and shut me up by delivering a working driver for Mac OS X .......... Jim

Yes. I got this working some time ago - but not rootless. I have XonX (Xdarwin) working. It takes over the whole desktop - so no Aqua applications running side-by-side ... but it works. I ssh to my Linux box, set the DISPLAY variable, and everything just works - I can even run KDE and Enlightenment. In fact, I just run my .xstartup script so I get a bunch of xterms and...

it doesn't download "screenshots" like VNC does to display the remote desktop. Unfortunately, I don't think this exists under Mac OS X. ...

ssh? VNC? ARD (Apple Remote Desktop)? What, specifically, are you trying to do? Do you need to "see a remote desktop," like with VNC/ARD/Screen Sharing? Do you only need access to the command line like with ssh? If you can elaborate on what, specifically, you're trying to do when you say "control the PowerMac remotely," and "distribute some resources," maybe we can...

Hi we seem to have a very slow airport network. Our experience is: if we go to a website it can take ages, once at the site it skips between intra domain pages quickly. If you go to another website there is a wait. I have tried installing open dns on one machine but it doesn't seem to help. Our systems are: All run latest Mac OS X

Ensure that your VNC viewer program is set up to use 8-bit color (or "full color" in some viewers). Mac OS X doesn't support VNC connections that use anything less than 8-bit color. You will need to use Apple's Remote Desktop software to connect to Macs and view their screens using less than 8-bit color.

I also use a program called Jaadu from my iPhone and it connects fine and gives me a VNC connection to share screens! ...

We have an Xserve running Mac OSX Server with a Share. Our Mac clients can connect fine but our Windows clients are no longer able to connect. It worked before but not anymore and I don't know what happened. Windows clients CAN: - ping server - VNC server - see server in "My Network Places" However, Windows clients CAN'T: - map server share - connect to server share
