Yep -- Mac OS X Server doesn't support VNC connections with anything less than 8-bit color. Apple's own Remote Desktop software will support VNC connections with 2-bit or grayscale connections, but it's far from free (as most VNC viewers are). It does offer quite a bit more flexibility and management abilities, though.

I've been being hacked for sometime. I believe that the responsible party has hijacked my machine. I have no server, have no home network, have never been part of a vnc, but look at these attachements. Hi all Just got myself a shiny new mac book pro to replace my aging powerPC mini, and came accross ScreenRecycler, i use Maxivista at work, and thought that this would be a good equivilent, however..... i have no clue about setting up a network for macs, SR comes with VNC, also which about i have no idea. Can someone who uses this give me soime tips? Thanking you in...

My guess would be a video or loose connection issue if the machine still responds when screen is black. If you have another mac handy, you can turn on one of the file/vnc sharing options to see if its available on network while black screen. Oh and greetings from across the ditch :) Ed

I'm getting the SBOD after selecting "Go To Login Screen" on my 10.5.5 Intel iMac. This happens about once a week. I have 4 users defined and mine is the only admin user (the others are currently logged in). I can still ssh into the machine (but not VNC), and have tried killing off all of my processes (since I was the last active user), but it still does not go to the user...

Try using VNC to remotely use apps (like Time Machine) on other computers.
