Netapp does not Support AFP they have a white paper on www.netapp.com that explains the only support they have is SMB and CIFS anything else is just pure luck if it works. Goto Netapp.com and search for OSX you will find what you need there I believe, the only issue I found is with spotlight...

We find that SMB works perfectly, the only issue is with Spotlight taking forever to search. I have not found a solution to this yet. Your options are few as Netapp says right on the website that they do not now nor are they likely to support native Mac OS file system since SMB and CIFS works...

You can connect with SMB or CIFS I find both are very good and stable. There is a problem with spotlight in that it will not index this connection so searches are SLOW, if I find a solution to that I will let you know. We have around 100 stations connected to a FAS270 and they connect well...
