Bootable CD with FileRecovery tool

Hi, a friend's Mac book bair died and someone else had a go at a repair. I can boot to the recovery utilities but there is no OS, I suspect the partition information is either corrupt or was deleted.

I'd like to know if there are any free/shareware (or cheap) tools that I can use so that I can then boot from USB/CD and try and rebuild the partition or scan the disk to see if I can recover any data from the disk. It does not seem to have been overwritten at any point so there should be a fair chance of attempting some data recovery.

There really is no cheap tool that will rescue important files (that didn't get on that backup). There are trial downloads, but they give you only a glimpse of what can be found and in some cases will not allow you to rescue that file (s) until you purchase the software.

Data Rescue 5 does have a trial download, which will help in determining if those files can be rescued.

Don't bother with the OS files, just the user folder files. The OS files will be replaced when you install the OS.

To install the OS, boot to the OS X Recovery - At start up hold the Command - Option - R

Lovely K,
That company never came up in my search. Have you worked with EaseUS or Yiwo? According to their web site, they have their hand in a big array of projects but have only one location.

Hi, you can still recover data from the dead hard drive with bootable CD/DVD of data recovery software. EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard is a bootable disk of data recovery software which can help you recover data after the system crash and boot problem. See details here: https://www.easeus.com/data-recovery/data-recovery-software/recover-data-from-dead-hard-drive.htm

I've tried that but the support team told me the following.

Thanks for contacting us.

Due to Mac OS limit, our software is unable to create a bootable disk on some version of HighSierra 10.13. You can try it on another computer with different Mac OS version.

Should you have any further questions about our product, please feel free to contact us.

For this reason I cannot use it, I don't have access to another MAC with a different OS version to get around the bug in their software.
