Your best prophylaxis is cleaning rental/library discs before inflicting them on your drive. Cures a lot of ills. I wait until I see what appears to be a tracking problem on a known good disc, then throw in a lens cleaner from Radio Shack. No set schedule.

Sean, I found a boot/install 9.2.2 CD on eBay for $40. This one is no help to you (my G4 MDD 867DP has an older ROM file than the 1.25 will accept) or I'd end you a copy. Snoop around eBay or the other usual suspects for a 1.25 install/restore disc set. The "classic" on that set is bootable as OS9.

Reformatting a floppy is unlike a "normal" HD reformat which just wipes the directory. A floppy format does the whole disk. And a PC format can replace the Mac data, but 144s have the same layout in both systems.

Burning the lot has appeal. But it stinks. Try an audiotape degausser from, say, Radio Shack. I forget what it's called in the UK. Memory is the second thing to go.

Once MTR finishes, you have a movie folder with a VIDEO_TS folder inside it. DVD Player will play that directly. Unless you're wild to save disk space, go with that -- you get the whole DVD, special features and all. Or you can tell MTR to do only a main feature extraction to save some space...

You don't need Mouseworks. My Kensington worked fine out of the box. Mouseworks add some functionality. On a re-start or a start-up or after a period of disuse, just double-click the mouse, and it will reactivate.

That's a feature, not a bug. Yes, the mouse is saving battery power by going to sleep after an idle period. No need to re-pair. Modest need to RYFM. To get the mouse active again, get it in range and click it a couple times.
