    Setting DVD region code

First you need to make your drive "RPC-1" (region free -- almost) Get the info and firmware here: http://www.powerbook-fr.com/dossiers/dvd_region_free_en_article30.html Then use RegionX to reset the change count when you hit the max http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13801 Hope...

    mac the ripper: bad sectors?

You can also get that message with the newer copy protection schemes that MTR 266 can't handle. You need to go to ripdifferent.com and join the forums. In the MTR forum are instructions on how to donate to Geezerbutts and get a cooy of MTR 3.

    Question about the classic environment

What machine do you have? If it is an old-enough G4 desktop, say 2002 or earlier, you can start up in OS9. Look to the "startup disk" prefpane. I haven't noticed any performance hit running Classic vs starting in OS9, but then I'm not very observant. You will find that Classic doesn't do a lot...

A valid DVD drive could not be found [-70012]

DVD Player doesn't make nice with external drives. You might try VLC Media Player for viewing (and Patchburn for burning). Both are available free at versiontracker.com.

    DVD Writing Issue

The "plus" persuasion is generally a bad idea for single layer DVDs. But if your SP says it'll write one, maybe its X-ness is higher than your drive can handle. It maxes at 8X, but without a firmware fix, it won't burn any higher that 4X. Or it could be a crappy brand which is why it was on sale.

Mac software to print on CDs / CD cover?

I'd never put a stick-on label onto a CD. That's a pretty good idea if you only put them in a tray-loading drive and a perfectly awful idea if you ever put one in a slot loader. Any imperfection (air bubble, crease, whatever) can leave the disc stuck in the drive. I'm too cheap to buy...

    DVD player acting odd

Suspect the discs, Vin. The combo drive in the older G4s doesn't play well with some brands. I have a stack of 1-2X that I've labelled "Don't give to anyone with a Mac." It should have said "Combo Drive." Try good-quality DVD-R discs from a reputable vendor.

    DVD DRIVE FIRMWARE

You really should edit that post and show us where your "can" really means "can't" because I can't figure out what you are saying. If you "can" burn data DVDs, are you trying to copy a commercial DVD movie? If so, how? I suspect you aren't doing it right. Why do you think you "can" burn...

How to save Flash presentation to disk?

Snapz Pro is the only thing I've seen that'll snap a Flash video: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11530 You can try it out before deciding whether to lay out $70 for it. The trial version has "UNREGISTERED" splashed all over the video. I tried it, and it seemed quite...

Word Virus on my Mac 10.3.9

That's one of the few "viruses" we can get, Jen -- a so-called Word Macro Virus. Grab a copy of this free de-bugger: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24449 And reset Word to its defult state of not permitting macros.

    DVD/CD writer for MAC

I agree with Bob. And OWC support has a very informative video on how to install the drive in your Mac. And the 110 can do DL discs. I just experimented with backing up a commercial DVD onto a DL. After MacTheRipper did its thing, Toast7 wrote the 4.5X DVD in 11 minutes -- no hour of...

    Retrospect client address change

Let me guess. You added the clients by address instead of letting retrospect search for them. That'll mess you up. As you noticed. I suspect all you can do now is tell Retro to forget each client, then restart with the client machines on, then let Retro search. If they're all on the same router...

New to Mac, having trouble emailing movies.

Fryke has it right. I know my ISP kicks back any attachment greater than 5mb. Check the limits of yours. But be careful to whom you mail MP4s. I sent one to a clueless peecee type, and she couldn't open the file and wouldn't/couldn't cope with getting the wintel version of QuickTime.

problems viewing jpg's on the internet

I just fired up my dual-boot G4 MDD 867DP into OS 9.2.2, and my IE5 did exactly what you described. However, Netscape 7.0.2 (free) dealt with oldnavy.com just fine. As my old boss used to say, Microsoft *is* a virus. Switch to Netscape and shop 'til you drop.

    getting printer to work

Office is particularly nasty about printing from Classic. One trick is to install a LaserWriter 8 driver, then choose "print to file" which yields a PostScript document that Preview can read and print. You don't need to have a laserwriter.
