There were also cases with Mac OS X 10.0 or 10.1 destroying Firewire drives for some reason. I think it's a firmware problem like it has been said before, not a problem of OS X.

I didn't do it. I read about this game on a news site today... Yes, it's based on the Quake III engine, and that one is open source. So is the game.

The first user on the system is usually the administrator. You cannot use or log in as root as user at OS X. However, if a system wide change is performed, you're asked to enter your administrator password.

I think we need a bit more detailed information. I don't know what you mean with User Group. Are you trying to log on to a Windows Server or something?
