    Surround Sound Data Rate?

Hi, OK I admit it, this question is for an assignment I'm working on for University but I'm struggling to find the answer to it and I would really really appreciate anyone's help. I need to find out the data transfer rate of 7.1 surround sound. It doesn't particularly matter which standard...

    Installing GDB?

Hey, I'd really like to use GDB (GNU debugger), I've downloaded it from the website etc, but can't seem to find any way of installing it, there doesn't seem to be a file to do that. I have a feeling it's not the kind of program you install in that way, as obviously you're expected to know a...

Connecting a pocket pc to a mac?

My Dad has very kindly given me his Toshiba e750 pocket PC, which I'm really pleased about, but obviously I can't use the software it comes with to connect it to my computer. I'm running OS10.2.8, and just wondered if there's any freeware about I can use? I've come across pocketmac and missing...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

Cheers Cheryl, I had a look and they're fine. I've done everything everyone has suggested so I'm booking it into a repair centre I've found. Now I've just got to get there!

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

It's very strange what happens. The programme will stop responding to mouse clicks ect. but i can still move the mouse. Downloads will still keep running, web pages will carry on loading, but I can't use the mouse to quit the programme/change between screens. I can however use apple+Q to quit...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

Woooooah it got so much worse, now the fans making unbelievable revving noises, and the light behind the power button flashed like disco lights at me after one crash. I only just realised that you could use the mac's own firewall independently btw, I thought that you needed a seperate...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

Oh People :( I reformatted again, it took me such a long time, as I upgraded the OS from 10.2 in steps (10.2.3, 10.2.4,10.2.5,10.2.6,10.2.8) repairing permissions inbetween (and you're right they mess up the system an awful lot!) I haven't added any Norton products, just an Intego...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

Yes I was wrong it comes with 10.2.4 :) I just ran the hardware test and everything is hunky dory. When I reformatted before I used OSX Extended (i think that was the name) but I'm just about to do another one so I'll make sure I get the right one. I do need to upgrade to run some of my...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

Right I have a G4 Dual 1.42 with 512mb ram running OSX10.2.8 usually, I have a 120GB hardrive which I usually partition into 2 fairly equally. What's really confusing me is that I didn't have these problems at all before I reformatted, which makes me think that it couldn't be the ram. I'll run...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

I'm still using 10.2 but when I originally got my mac I think I had to put it on then, so I should think my disc is ok. What would you recommend instead of Norton? I have Intego firewall and virus barrier, but it seems a bit naff as it doesn't seem to intercept enough. I meant to add that on...

Tried to fix my mac, think I made it worse :(

I've recently posted that over the weekend I reformatted my mac, as it had been getting a little snarled up but nothing too bad. Since then it keeps randomly freezing, in programmes (so far opera, firefox, internet explorer and msn messenger). I haven't a clue what I've done. As far as I'm aware...

Internet Explorer Crashing and I've Only Just Reformatted?!

But I'm not copying any preferences that I know of? I'm literally wiping everything off, I have coppied word processing documents and such like but that's it, I just selected those bits. I didn't copy my entire user file and then dump it into the freshly formatted mac, that's why...

Internet Explorer Crashing and I've Only Just Reformatted?!

Thanks for replying, seeing as I'd only just started adding software after reformatting I figured I'd just reformat it again. It worked fine for a few hours, but now it's doing it again. It's so weird it's like reformatting has trashed my mac rather than fixing it!

Internet Explorer Crashing and I've Only Just Reformatted?!

Just to add that now Opera is doing it too, what've I done wrong?!

Internet Explorer Crashing and I've Only Just Reformatted?!

I've just been loading all my software back onto my mac after a reformat. Internet Explorer keeps freezing, I can move the mouse, but that's it. I can't even bring up the force quit screen using the keyboard, and even clicking on the desktop doesn't let me go to the finder, it's just stuck in...

    How to reformat?

Hey, I've had my G4 about a year now and it's suddenly got quite snarled up (probably with all the junk I've downloaded no doubt!) Now things like pressing the eject button on the keyboard doesn't open the cd drive. I thought I'd reformat, as I have lots of time on my hands, and I'm not...

Recommend me a Group Reader for Usenet

OK I've only just read about Usenet and until an hour ago I didn't know much about it so excuse me if I use the wrong words, but could someone recommend me a good group reader that works with OSX? So far I've heard of Thoth.... thanks! Claire

    Broadband for mac..in the uk

I use NTL too, although I've only got 150k connection, it works fine with OSX and costs me £18 a month. It goes down every now and again which can be a bit of a pain, but its cheap. There's probably better out there but I'm tied into the 12 month contract now
