    FTP and firewalls

Without any safe guards on my computer, my FTP throughput is respectable, usually about 350-400kbps. When I run a firewall however (tried both Netbarrier and Firewalk) my FTP speeds drop to around 35kbps. I keep ports 20-21 open. Does anyone have any hints as to why this would happen? Thanks!

    Proftpd problems

Hey, I've seen people recommend proftpd here so I compiled it tonight, no problems. However, when I try to run it, I get the error: Core - Fatal: unable to determine IP address of `Core'. Core is my computer's host name as defined in hostconfig. Any FTP gurus have any ideas?

    File permissions

Hey, I've got programs like "FamilyTreeX" that can only be run as the SysAdmin through Pseudo, yet it has owner and public file permissions set to read/write/execute. Anyone know how you can get programs like these to be able to execute from anyone?

MacOS 9.1 not recognised for Classic

I installed OSX and a fresh OS 9.1 on the same partition. When choosing a 9.1 system for Classic in OSX preferences, the OS 9.1 thats on the same partition as OSX is not available, yet an OS 9.1 on a different partition is available. Any ideas on a possible fix?

There is a GUI interface you can pick up called Brickwall to allow you to modify the firewall settings. You can get it from <http://www.versiontracker.com>

    CD-Rom gone bye bye

Has anyone run into a problem where OSX suddenly doesn't recognize their CD-Rom anymore? It was working when I first installed OSX, but now even the System Profiler doesn't see it. It works fine under OS9 as well.

    OSX Deathly slow

I've successfully installed OSX onto a slave ATA drive. Everything works, but the system is brutally slow. Wondering if anyone else running OSX on a slave drive is having the same problem?

    Resolved

Well, after lots of trial and error, I finally got OSX to install. Everything worked fine when I put the original Apple CD-Rom back in the computer. Unfortunately under X through, my CDR doesn't work. :(

Broken System Folder on OSX CD.

Like the subject says, when I boot from the OSX CD or through the Install icon on OS9. It will get the happy little Mac icon for about too minutes, then it becomes a broken (cracked) System Folder, and sit's there til I reboot. Anyone experienced this?
