Possible new Snow Leopard security improvements

http://blogs.zdnet.com/security/?p=1325 Full address space randomization No Execute on heap, not just the stack 64 bit processes: Function arguments passed in registers, not the stack. Makes it much harder to exploit with address space randomization and NX on heap and stack Fully...

iPhone coming to Canada 2008 confirmed

“We're thrilled to announce that we have a deal with Apple to bring the iPhone to Canada later this year,” said Ted Rogers, the cable giant’s CEO, in a short statement. “We can't tell you any more about it right now, but stay tuned.” http://www.thestar.com/Business/article/419503 All I...

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewGenre?id=32 No American shows yet :( I'm not sure how well just these shows will do, I hardly watch any of them, just sometimes watch Corner Gas when it's on and nothing else is.

[HOW-TO] Delete all copies of a file from Time Machine

So you accidentally backed up something you didn't want through Time Machine? Well, you've probably tried going to the Time Machine backup volume and seeing if you can delete it. You'll find that there are possibly hundreds of hard links and the Finder won't let you delete them anyways. So...

According to Apple: Time Machine "behaves correctly"

A while ago(before the GM build) I submitted a bug to Apple about how Time Machine wouldn't work any more with AFP mounted volumes and it had in the past worked. Now they've just informed me that in order for it to work, the AFP volume must be on Leopard Server, and the share point must have...

Leopard will be released at WWDC

IMO this is when they will release Leopard. I got the email about WWDC's date which is June 11-15 and included in this email was the following image(attached). To me this seems like a pretty obvious hint by Apple.

    Fix your Macbook random shutdown!

Apple has addressed the random shutdown of some Macbooks with a firmware update. http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbooksmcfirmwareupdate11.html I guess there were 2 issues causing this. One, the software issue and another an issue of a thermal sensor wire too close to a heatsink...

Finder always forgets how to connect to networked Macs

This has been happening for a while and not just on one computer. I have 4 Macs on a network and they will usually show up in the Network "folder", but a lot of times when I try to connect to it, the Finder will say "Connection failed. The computer may not exist or may not be operational at...

Sharing a SCSI drive with AFP?

Does anyone know how to share an internal SCSI drive hooked up to a PCI card? There's obviously no configuration of Apple Share in System Preferences.

    Popping sound from speakers

This is a weird problem that I'm having. I had an older set of speakers with my G4 that after a while would go silent. If there was a system sound that played it was most likely not heard through the speakers. If I adjust the volume up and down with the volume keys on the keyboard, the...

    Distributed builds

Do any of you use distributed builds in XCode? I have a new G5 with OS 10.4.1 and a G4 with OS 10.4.1, both with XCode 2.1. The other computer shows up as "Incompatible OS" even though I am running the exact same OS on both. By other, I mean if I'm on the G5, the G4 shows "Incompatible OS"...

Widgets use crazy amounts of virtual memory

These widgets are using in excess of 200 MB virtual memory per widget. This is insane. VM usage on my system is at 5.4 GB  Do they each load the entire Webcore into memory or something? This is pretty ridiculous for each widget.

    QMaster permissions problem

Seems like every time I reboot Tiger it comes up with a window saying permissions are incorrect on /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster Which seems to be related to DVD Studio Pro or something. Tiger offers to fix the permissions or disable it. Reparing it asks me to restart. Just a heads up...
