apple's G5 support site says to use the install disk and use disk utility when Tiger is the installed OS rather than booting the computer into terminal mode and using fsck -y to check and repair hard drive? why is it not Ok to do it directly from the boot method? Thanks!

i use Jaguar currently... i was recently transferring a large QT movie to my iDisk and it locked up when 'finishing' is there a way to force quit a transfer like that? i tried everything i could think think of, but nothing worked... i had to shut off my power strip cause i could not...
