    XP Pro very jerky

I would definitely increase RAM, although I think this might have more to do with that "unsupported" PCI device -- what is it, by the way? And yes, definitely make sure you have no "question marks" on any devices in device manager. Try removing the PCI device and seeing if that smooths things...

    FireWire Target Disk Mode Help

With it connected, open up Disk Utility (Applications-->Utilities) and see if it shows up there but is not mounted. If it does, click "Repair Disk" and see if it then shows up on the desktop. If it doesn't show up in Disk Utility, you should try to run Disk Utility off of the CDs first.

    iphoto + itunes

Can only help with #2 for now, #1 is dependent upon a lot of things, namely who is your processor? To import an audio CD: 1) insert the CD 2) when the CD shows up in the sidebar, click to highlight it. It might automatically highlight itself. 3) in the upper right, you should see...

    ip address

I believe the OS X version of HP's LaserJet Utility can change the IP Address: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=29789&prodNameId=29794&swEnvOID=219&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=lj-3930-2

max number of user accounts allowed

There is however a limit to the number of connections you can have at one time. For OS X Tiger client, I believe there is a limit of ten unique users that can be logged in at once. For Tiger Server, there is the ten user version which allows ten unique users but unlimited numbers _of_...

Consensus on best non-Retrospect backup solution?

Hey Everyone, Curious to know what, if any, folks in the Macosx.com world use to schedule backups that is non-Retrospect/Dantz? I'd heard that the scheduling function of Carbon Copy Cloner / RSyncX is actually broken under 10.4 and who knows when Mike will release CCC 3.0 For years I've...

    logmein.com and MIME error....

Your in-laws are obviously behind a router giving them private "192.x.x.x" IP addresses. Here's what you can do: Have your in-laws create an account, and have them REMEMBER their login information. Have them add their computer to their account. WHen you can VNC into your mum's PC, you...

    logmein.com and MIME error....

Not at all. The logmein.com thing is based on some weird jscript thing that must be PC-only (at this point). I've set it up on PCs before, and can actually connect just fine while running Virtual PC, but I honestly don't think there is any mac support for the product (whether as a client...

    logmein.com and MIME error....

Does not work on OS X at all. It's too bad, but I actually went ahead and installed Virtual PC for this reason alone. Easy-to-configure VPN/VNC/Remote Desktop solutions are still PC only, it seems. Try your luck installing Hamachi (www.hamachi.cc) -- it's easy to deploy on PCs, a bit harder...
