I have the xroach binary. How can I compile it to run under Apple's X11 server?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to script the Sound Control Panel to change between built-in audio and an external sound source (M-Audio Sonica)?

Disk First Aid has returned the following error after twice running a disk repair: bad key length Does anyone know what this is and/or how to fix it? The machine boots VERY SLOWLY and does the same shutting down (around ten minutes each way), but is otherwise OK.

I'm talking, of course, about xroach, easily the most important UNIX program ever written. Does anyone, ANYone, else want to recompile the source to GCC 3.x, i.e., 10.2/Jaguar? I'm thinking it would work fine with Apple's X server, but...? OK, so who's with me?

Any thoughts on OS X freeware hard-disk throughput-measuring programs? I want to test various disk configurations (i.e., software vs. hardware RAID), etc...

He'p! He'p! My brand-new BAMF PowerMac is having trouble with CD-RW discs (Memorex standard-grade 1x-4x). I can get all the way through using the Finder to burn them, but the verification fails, and the machine then thinks that the disk contains no readable areas. Any thoughts?

Does anyone know where to find Cold Compress, an OS X compress GUI? I've been all over but no go. BTW, I need it for my brand new dual 1.25 gHz G4. Woo-hoo!

I tarballed a folder with InDesign documents and Photoshop TIFFs in folders in it. The InDesign documents decompressed fine, but the TIFFs are no longer recognized by Photoshop, even after manually changing the extensions and creator codes. Any suggestions?

I filled my startup volume, copied my ~/Documents folder to another partition, and now my machine won't restart/shutdown. Any ideas?

OS X will not shut down, restart, or logout. If I tell it to do any of these things, the screen goes pale blue, the mouse is still active, as is the Force Quit (Command+Option+Escape) dialog box; oddly, tho', there are no programs listed as running and, still, the machine has not shut down...

How does one go about defining the ColorSync profile for a generic printer set up under Print Center? I only "print" to PDF, and I would like to include a full RGB color gamut in my PDFs; unfortunately, a rather restrictive CMYK gamut seems to be in play. Any ideas?

How can you specify that you want the gimp to use a different disk for its swap files?
