    Eudora personalities

My dad is still running Eudora 4.0 and is trying to deal with the junk mail problem. He has decided he wants to have two email addresses, one for family that only allows mail from pre-listed addresses through, and another email address for online order confirmations, etc. since thats likely to...

Can AppleScript do network drive mounting like this?

I am trying to write an AppleScript for our computer lab to automate login to my school network. There's a catch though. There are three possible servers somebody can log on to, one for freshman/soph, one for juni/seniors, and one for faculty. Basically, i want to write a script that automates...

Whoa! 12" PowerBook has a Windows/Right-Click keyboard button?

This is a potentially hot topic :)! Maybe Apple put this in for Virtual PC, maybe it hints that Macs will run Windows, maybe I'm making a big deal out of nothing... But anyway, see the attached image, taken directly from the just-released developer note. At the bottom right are two keys very...

    New Keys on 17" PowerBook

There are some new keys on the 17" PowerBook, have a look. If you read up on the PowerBook's new features, you should be able to guess what they do... :)

Does it hurt programs to force quit them while launching?

Or, for that matter, to force quit them in the middle of doing something? Say I force quit Photoshop in the middle of a big render. Will it hurt the file being worked on, or damage Photoshop/it's prefs? Just wondering...sometimes I miss in the Dock when I'm in a hurry, and force quitting saves...

    Any tips on digital cameras?

I want to buy a digital camera for myself for Christmas, one that has decent features but still manages to stay pretty small. Basically my priorities are the most megapixels for the lowest price/image quality, battery life, and a relatively small size (not that credit-card sized one but still...

    Happy Birthday, Racer X!

Happy B-day to one of the great macosx.com veterans around here, finally returned after the...hiatus, but nevermind that, Racer X is back! Yay! :) Those of us who remember that far back know how great your posts always have been, especially about Rhapsody! Have a great day Racer, buy yourself...

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Here's a common hypothetical situation: Say I just bought a new PowerMac G4 1.4 GHz, released 1 month after this upcoming MWSF (I said hypothetical:)). Like Apple said, it can't boot OS 9 natively. I buy it with a 30 GB hard drive, but want to use an 80 GB drive I had from before. I format the...

    Anyone familar with OC'ing a PowerBook G3?

I am considering overclocking my WallStreet (below are specs) from 300 to 333 or 350 MHz. How do you do it? I found some Japanese pages a year ago but didn't want to risk the language problems screwing up anything...but OS X just needs a speed boost. So...anyone know, or have English...

Does the Finder break permissions rules?

I just did something I don't think the Finder is supposed to have permission to do. Say you have 2 users on your OS X installation. You log in as yourself (an admin user), and drag a file from your Desktop to the other users /Public/Drop Box folder. So far so good, right? You're not supposed...

    Cool hidden Jaguar printing feature!

Sorry if everybody know this already, but I just found this cool new Jaguar feature after watching Phil Schiller's Seybold 2002 Keynote: You can directly access the CUPS Unix printing system from within your web browser! It's kind of like configuring a router from within your browser...

Another reason the iPod is great...

I just read a review of Audible.com at c|net and one of the user review responses was... Nat "Great idea, poor implementation" Listening to audio books via my pocket PC is great. The only way that makes sense is their monthly plans. For 12 to 15 per month you get 2 books. If you go piece...

Jaguar is $50 off at Amazon!

From www.macnn.com: apparently there is a $50 rebate coupon for Jaguar at Amazon, so you non-academic people get a discount! :) Here's a link to the rebate coupon... http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00006ANW9.01.RB02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg Only thing is, it seems kind of fishy to me when there is...

    Ugly iMac ripoff introduced...

A PC company called Northwood just introduced this hideous blatant copy of the iMac (blatant in that even their comments to newspapers describe how it's a better deal than the Apple's offering.) And I quote: "The Californian company said its new Integra, "crosses the boundaries between the...

Anybody try the new iPods yet?

I was just wondering how the new touch-wheel worked. If it's like the touchpad on a laptop, then I think that's not exactly the best option because if your hands are wet/greasy/dirty the pad will not work. Even though the original scroll wheel was thicker, at least it didn't have this problem...

Congrats Xaqintosh, newest 1000 post club member!

Congrats...sorry, I just missed the 1000 count in the screenshot! :) Reminds me of when RacerX wanted that animation of his post count climbing while flashing "loser" every few seconds for his wife :p ! (I'm not trying to imply anything by that, of course! ...or am I? :D j/k)

    Schiller's MWNY99 Freefall?

http://macteens.com/news/news.php?id=2130686533 (at bottom of page) What exactly was that? Did he trip or something, or were there some fancy special effects at that expo? I couldn't tell from the wording. :)

    Who uses themes?

And, out of curiosity, why? I started using Alumite X a month ago and (sorry Apple) haven't used Aqua since! I love it for my design work because it is simple (has little contrast), and still pretty at the same time. Apple's Aqua was really refreshing at first, but got... well... kinda boring...
