Safari does not include a bookmark sorting capability. You can manually move bookmarks to any listing order you like, in the Show Bookmarks window. I think there are Safari utilities to download, that have bookmark sorting, but I can't come up with one.
 
you can also search bookmarks with apple-f, not what you asked but helps to find things in huge lists.

sort but also get rid off duplicate just had a quick go at it seems to be doing the job ok Hope you will find it useful too
 
Thanks Macxprt for the reminder to what I pointed out a couple of week ago.
I've been using it since then and I'm quite pleased with it.

Hope it will be useful to anyone trying to work this out as much as it was to me when I starded this thread ;-)
