Hi, I have a 2008 or so iMac. The screen is completely black. The folks at the mac store told me that the problem is a video card and that it would be $800 to fix.

I was wondering if there is any way that I can get the files off of this computer, or perhaps hook up another monitor to it. It has USB slots, firewire slots, and another slot which I do not recognize.

Is there a way to perhaps hook it up to another computer as a "backup drive", so that I can access the files on it? Or is there a way to hook up a monitor to it so that I can get the files that way?
