application folder cannot be modified?

Hi all, the other day i've d/l and installed a new version of VLC player and since i've done that my application folder cannot be modified, b4 i could copy or trash apps but now it tells me that the applications folder cannot be modified, what can i do about this?
please someone help me :(

Go into Terminal, type ls -l /Applications and post what you see.

Or search the site for Applications -- there are other threads dealing with this issue, one might already have the info you need. :)
