Background Control Panel Unbearably slow

Has anyone noticed a huge slowdown in the background control panel since loading the new iLife? It has never been speedy or anything when browsing iPhoto albums, but its reached the point where it has to be force-quit every time. Anyone else running into this?
 
No, I haven't noticed any slowdowns with the System Preference application, whether it's in the foreground or background after installing iLife... if this isn't what you mean, please explain further!
 
I'm still waiting on my copy to arrive (today hopefully), but I'd repair permissions after installing something of that size.

yeah, that is what i had in mind "System Preferences, desktop and screensaver" control panel. For others information, I did an upgrade of iLife, and upgraded my current library in iPhoto (instead of wiping and re-importing things). iPhoto itself is MUCH faster -- its generating the thumbnails in Desktop & Screensaver that is killing me. The photos are large (most off a Digital Rebel), so it was never a speed demon or anything, but after installing the new iLife, it has really tanked.

I'm inches away from re-imaging my machine anyway -- I think I may just need a fresh start ;) I was basically just looking for a "yeah, that would be your machine being nasty" sort of confirmation :)
