Connecting to wireless network with WAP pre-shared key

I set up my Airport Extreme base station with WPA and a 64 hex pre-shared key. When I try to connect to it via the Airport Extreme card in my PowerBook the connection dialog I access from the Airport menu does not allow me to enter 64 hex characters. It only recognizes 63 ASCII characters. However, when I go into the network preferences and select a network to join I can enter the 64 hex key. I'd prefer using the automatic setting in network preferences though.

Is this a bug or is there another way to enter the 64 hex key in the dialog?

Thanks for your help.

After you once declared the WEP key, you should be able to leave the network mode in the automatic mode and it should connect properly. Did you try this by now?
You should also add what os version you have and if you have all recent updates.
It works just fine, but I am not using an Airport Extreme base station but a d-link 614+

Sorry, forgot to mention the software. I am running the latest software (OS, drivers, etc).

I tried your recommendation and put it back to automatic - it seems to work. But it still seems strange that you can't connect via the Airport menu.
