Fortmating my external

cogito

Pragmatic Dualist
well, I have a bit of a problem. Every time I try and erase or partition my external firewire drive with Disk Utility it starts up fine then just sits there with "unmounting volumes" up indefinately. There are no volumes on the 100gb disk to to unmount. So i went to the shell and tried fdisk. It gave me the error:
fdisk: unable to access IDE or SCSI drive
(Must be run as root)
so i tried sudo fdisk, typed in my passowrd and it still gave me the same error!!! ok, then I booted in single user mode, and guess what I tried fdisk there and i got the error. I also tried sudo fdisk there and go the error!!! im not really sure how to use fdisk but does anyone have any Ideas!!! Is a new drive and I want it BACK!!!

That's strange. Have you tried formating it in OS 9? If that fails I would definately say it was hardware related.
