I'm acting IT manager at a school which provides workshops in film photography and digital. The main chore I have is keeping 30+ machines with Panther on them networked and with the correct software installed, as well as managing printing which is one of our largest problems. Currently, none of our printers are network ready, so they sit on host machines which manage the jobs. Unfortunately, there are some problems with this. First and formost, our network has recently become home to what I will refer to as "ghost" printers. These "ghosts" are printers that were connected to various host computers but have since changed place. For some reason, however, our macs seem to think that they're still around. There has also been one instance of a networked laser printer showing up as a ghost as well, an old brother 1270n was replaced, but still shows up on the network.
If anyone has any insight to this problem, I would be very grateful.
Thank you,
Brian
