Installing OS X without a CD drive

I need to reinstall OS X on my laptop but my CD drive stopped working several months ago. It’s a bit too expensive for me to replace and surprisingly it hasn’t really affected me until now. I guess I just don’t really use it much.

But any way… I’m wondering if there is a way to install it (OS X) without the use of my CD drive.

If your laptop has FireWire and you have access to another machine with FireWire you can connect the machines with a 6pin to 6pin FireWire cable. Boot your laptop while holding down the "T" key. Boot the other machine from the install cd. Your llaptop drive should show as a viable install destination during the install.

That should work.... I've used target mode to copy files but I never thought to use it this way.... very nice.

thanks.
