hello there,

i use itunes 7.0.2 (the latest version so far) on a mac os 10.3.9. i hooked up with ipod (3rd generation) via firewire to my mac, and the ipod icon doesn't appear on itunes and the desktop. i have not had any problems with my ipod before that.

i restarted my mac and reset my ipod a few times, but that didn't work.

restoring the settings of my ipod is the last thing i want to do since my files/songs will be wiped out from my ipod.

your kind advice will be much appreciated. thank you in advance!

thanks for your reply, deltamac. i've seen the page web page before.

i'd like to restore my ipod settings, but i can't even do that because the ipod icon doesn't appear in itunes.

is there some other way for me to sort this problem out? thanks again.

If you have already seen that page, you will find that if you work your way down, one of those items will fix your problem. One choice may be restoring your iPod to original, and that's listed there.

Is your iPod working, even if not mounting on the computer?

thanks so much for your posts. :)

i unplugged my ipod firewire, and then plugged it into another firewire socket in my imac, and the problem is solved. the ipod icon now appears on my imac and in itunes. thank God!

Does that mean that the other firewire socket is "gone for good"? I.e.: Have you tried another FW device on that port? If it's really gone, that'd sound like a hardware failure, which is too bad. Although you _can_ of course still link all your FW devices behind one port as long as they offer link-through (which the iPod doesn't, so it'd have to be the last device).

hi fryke,

thanks again. i didn't try connecting another device to that previous firewire port. i'm just glad my ipod can be synched to my imac. :)
