I'm having trouble chossing between a Seagate 200 gig and some other brand
that seems like a no name brand (forgive my ignorance) the other one is a 250 gig

Heres the Seagate

and heres the other one

what do u guys think will the Seagate be that much more reliable?

or should I go for the most space I can get. (I'll need it for video)

Thanks guys I appreciate your time

I would personally recommend a Western Digital drive, but if you want to choose between those two, choose the Seagate. A 250GB drive for just over $100 is too good to be true, and a hard drive is a tough thing to trust to a no-name brand.

Hey I found out that the other drive is a Maxtor is that all right?

What about the case is it all right?

Thanks for your reply

Maxtor is decent. I put Seagate, IBM and Maxtor on the same level -- pretty good. I put Western Digital a little above the rest. I have four Western Digital drives right now, and none of them have gone bad.

On the contrary, ALL of my Maxtor drives (3 total) have gone bad, and my one IBM drive has gone bad. I don't have much experience with Seagate, but their SCSI drives were damn good. I would choose Western Digital over Seagate, but I would choose Seagate over Maxtor.

Either way, you're getting a brand-name drive. Just make sure it comes with at least a one year warranty. Also, the case is fine -- just make sure it comes with a decent warranty as well.

Okay thanks for your advice..I'm about ready to order.

One question....

Will I void the warrenty if I put it in a external enclosure?
Cause all Seagates have a five year warranty. I tried looking a there site but could not find anything regarding this. If the warranty stands with the drive in the enclosure I'll go Seagate if not I'll go with the Maxtor 250

Thanks for your help.

installing a hard drive in an external enclosure won't void the warrenty. It's like installing the drive in a desktop case.
