Printing problem

I'm running a Power Mac G4, Mac OSX 10.2.8 (Jaguar), with 2 Gigs of RAM.

A co-worker has never had issues printing until this past Friday. All of sudden nothing will print. When trying to print out of InDesign CS, she gets this error: Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.

When trying to print out of Entourage, she get this error: Entourage - an error occurred while printing. Not enough memory.

She has tried printing out of Quark 6.0, and gets the same results.

Nothing new has been installed on the computer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

You have given zero (0) information about your printer, which model and manufacturer, how it is connected, or anything else. We are left to guess wildly about your problem.

Best Guess: Reenstate your printer as your computer's default printer.
Second Best Guess: Reconnect your printer to the computer.
Third Best Guess: Turn on it printer's power switch.

Sorry about that. We have two different kinds of printers in here that we work with. They run through a network. Everyone else can print to them but she's not able to print to either of them. One of them is an HP Laserjet 5100, and the other is a Canon 1180 Color Laser Copier.

I have redone the printer as the default, but to no avail.

Thanks.

Apple included the HP LaserJet 5100 PPD file with MacOS X. There should be no reason that you cannot access the printer over your network. Possibly, someone changed the printer's settings at its walk-up menu. You need to go through each setting to ensure that it is available. The Canon Color Laser Copier 1180 requires a ColorPASS Color Server print server for printing. The print server accepts PostScript print jobs. This means that your Canon should also have no problems with your Mac. The fact that both of your printers are inaccessible indicates that your problem lies somewhere in your network. If you are using IP-printing, then you need to ensure that you have the proper IP addresses for your printers. You can should be able to find those from the printers's walk-up menus. If you have the proper IP addresses, then you need to check all ports, hubs, switches, and routers between your Mac and your printers.

Nothing has changed on the computer. All printer settings are what they should be. IP addresses are correct. What's confusing to me is why wouldn't it be happening to the other 17 people that use these machines.

The errors that come up to when trying to print are odd to me. Again, they are:
When she prints out on InDesign CS this error appears:
Printing Error: The Adobe Print Engine has failed to output your data due to an unknown problem.

When trying to print out of Entourage, she get this error: Entourage - an error occurred while printing. Not enough memory.

Thanks for your help.

Rick, we understand that printing isn't working on your computer. We are beyond that. We are now trying to diagnose and fix your problem.

Have you recorded the settings of one of those 17 people whose printing works just fine to see if your settings are different?

Have you done the basic permissions repair on the affected computer? That could be all you have to do along with a restart.
Apps/Utilities/Disk Utility/Disk First Aid/Repair Permissions

If that doesn't work then boot up in Safe Mode and repair at the root level:
Restart/Hold command + s keys till you see black screen/white text/type fsck -f and wait for process to finish/type reboot to restart machine.

Make sure no IP addresses were changed by your IT Admin. Make sure your user's ethernet cable is plugged in and that you can log into your network. Make sure your user isn't Print Sharing.

You could try Print Center Repair; It's a great app for cleaning print caches and diagnosing print errors:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21738

Make sure you read the Read Me file for Print Center Repair.

Have you tried printing a document that works on the other computers on the comp with the issue?

As your last resort, unless someone thinks of something better, you'll probably have to uninstall the printer driver and reinstall from the install disc.
