Problem connecting iBook to hotel network...

I am staying in the Spanish Parador hotels this week. The current one has a wifi network that you can buy access for 12 hours. Give them 4 Euro at reception and you get a user name and password.

However, you get an automatic link with Airport which allows you to see the hotel group's own site (www.paradores.es) for free. Once this is connected there is no way I can find to bring up the screen for user name and password to allow you to connect to the web in general.

I have tried entering the network name in the Airport drop down using "Other..." and tried the options WEP, LEAP, WAP Personal, WAP Enterprise, 802X etc, which come up on the Airport screen, but nothing works. Also tried IE5, Firefox, Camino and Safari - no joy.

Tried user name and password with $ sign in front - still nothing.

The only way I got connected was to try the connection on my Palm TX. This went straight to the Paradores login screen and gave a URL of http://1.1.1.1/http.www.anywebsiteaddress. I typed this into the iBook and the login screen appeared. Set the iBook to remember the details and it works now.

But there must be a proper way of getting this screen. If I hadn't had the Palm, I would not be connected now.

Any ideas?

Launch System Preferences.
Open the Network preferences pane.
Select Show: Airport from the popup menu.
Check the Show Airport status in menu bar checkbox.

Take note of the new Airport icon in the menu bar.
Click on it to see a list of all available wireless networks.
Click on the one you want.
Enter your username and password in the appropriate spaces.

I'd create a Location (in the apple menu) for the wireless instructions MisterMe gave. Name it Spanish Parador so when you need it again you can just choose it from your Locations and not have to set it up all over again.

Update...

I have the icon in the menu bar already. Problem is that it does the connection to the Parador website automatically, but it doesn't do the next stage which is to ask for a user name and password when you try to access any site beyond the Parador web page.

I had no problem logging in with the wifi on my Palm. Password page came up straight away.

However, it seems that it could have been a problem with the Parador setup. We've moved on to another Parador and it works straight away!

Thanks for the suggestions, I was getting concerned as, although I'm on holiday, I needed to address a couple of urgent family matters.
