Recording Using Internal Microphone

I've got an iMac 10.2.8, with the microphone built into the moniter.
Well I've never really needed or wanted to use it before, until now. I searched for similar topics to this but couldn't really seem to find one that had the answer I'm looking for.

Can anyone tell me how I can use it to record an audio file that I could play in say, Quick Time? Or is it possible to record mp3s?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If you have Garageband, that will work.

If you have Quicktime Pro, that will also work.
