I am running 10.3.5 with safari 1.2.3 and for some reason I cannot change the app icon. I have gone into the info panel and unlocked and done everything needed for it to allow changes and still nothing even after I entered my password. I even repaired permissions and still nothing.

ideas?

open 2 windows in finder. in other, go to where you have your icons.
other, to applications.

choose 1) a nice icon. hit apple-i to get info. select the picture area in the info. copy.
2) select apple-i for safari. go to the picture area, paste.

if you have safari on your dock, close safari, remove the icon from dock. drag it back there from applications folder. :)

I know how to change an icon. I am doing exactly what you say to and have been for years on macs. the problem is that when I do exactly that it doesn't work and its only with safari. any other app can use any icon I want it to.

Try changing the icon in the Safari Package.

Control or Right Click the Safari application icon to Show Package Contents>Contents>Resources

The Safari icon is compass.icns

Drag that to your Dekstop and put what you want in there. It'll have to be an .icns file.
