Speech Recognition and US accent

Some guy
Hello all,

I've been trying to get Speech recognition working under OS X after having quite a lot of fun with it in the past. However, it doesn't seem to be recogonising me as well as it used to.

I've actually found that if I speak in a mock American accent it works much better!!!! Problem is I'm English so this is a bit annoying (not to mention funny!).

Anyone else experienced this?

Is there a way of setting which country you are from to help it out?

Bizarre!

Goynang.

I wonder what that is - given there are two official languages here, not counting Newfie...

That's like saying there is one 'American' accent, or one 'British' one.

Ha Ha!

I'm serious though - it really does make a difference if I add a US 'twang' when I speak.

Back in pre-OS X days I found the recognition system really good (correct about 95% of the time). This was back when there used to be a version of the OS for us British folks. Now we just get lumped into US international (cheers - we only invented the language after all!).

Probably nothing to do with it at all but it makes me wonder.

What gives?

Sorry goinang, but I am still laughing picturing you speaking to your computer with *your* United States accent lol:)
