spring clean my mac...

is there a good way to give my ibook osx a good clean out?

getting rid of all old, dead, temp files
and even giving a re-boot so its like the 1st time i switched it on?

any help please...

A re-install would be the best way. Back everything up you need, and say goodbye to everything else. You could also create a new account and transfer to that for a fresh start. Of course, there's always the manually removing old files route. Here's how to get the welcome screen again w/o re-install:

Try using one of these programs to clean out logs and caches first;

Cocktail
Onyx
Yasu

Repair Permissions using one of these, or Disk Utility in your Utility folder.

Reboot off your OS X disc and run Disk Utilities to Repair Disk.

A reinstall is too drastic for this.
