Wireless Network, G4, Tiger, Linksys

Hello!

My girlfriend and I recently purchased a Mac G4 to accomodate her schooling, and we've been having a little trouble getting it wirelessly online. As the situation currently stands, the G4 does not recognize the wireless card as an Airport Card.

Our hardware includes:

Computer
Mac OSX 10.4.6
Dual 1 ghz PowerPC G4
2 MB L3 cache per processor
512 MB RAM

PCMCIA Card
Linksys WPC54GS ver.2 SpeedBooster

Router
Linksys DI-524

There are currently several WinXP computers hooked up both wirelessly and via ethernet, and now we are trying to get the G4 online.

I've done some research on the issue via this support forum and others, and the concensus seems to be that the WPC54GS works well, as opposed to the WPC54Gv2 that may result in negative comments if anyone should desire Googling it.

Also, I went to Library > Preferences > SystemConfiguration > Networkinterfaces.plist and i changed en0 to en1. I restarted the machine to no avail.

So my questions are:

A) Are these pieces of hardware compatible with each other,
and
B) If so, what am I doing wrong? :(

When you bought the wireless card, did you check System Preferences->Network and show the 'Network Status' in the drop down menu?
 
I just did it now.

After going to SystemPreferences > Network, I dragged the "Show:" dropdown to "Network Status. It says:

(red dot) Internal Modem Internal Modem is not set up.
 
Howdy! This is one thing PCs do a little more seamlessly. On the mac you should set up a 'apple menu/Location' for your wireless network. When you do that the System Preferences/Network tab will be opened and you can activate your wireless card and deactivate ethernet for that setting.

Have your WEP key handy as well as select DHCP as I assume your Linksys is providing that.

Should work fine once you set up the location. Let us know if not. When you set it up, make sure to check 'show wireless status in menu bar' and you'll see the icon appear in the top right of the menu bar (looks like a pie slice).

Thank you for the advice.. I'm in Apple > Locations > Home, and I found the section to disable the ethernet (uncheck the On checkbox), but I'm not seeing an Airport option. I'm under the impression that I should see

Internal Modem
Built-in Ethernet 1
Built-in Firewire
Airport

but I only the first three of those four.
 
If you then go to Network Port Configurations and don't see Airport then your Airport card is either installed incorrectly, is damaged and isn't functioning or you don't have one in your computer.

Go to apple menu/About this computer and click 'more info' to check all your installed hardware.
