Just found out that we were approved to have the Mac OS X Server Essentials class next week. I already attended the Mac OS X Administration Basics and passed the exam. Class is Wed. thru Fri., so by the 28th or 29th I should have my ACTC!!!! schweet!!!!

man you are lucky. back in the days when I was at school, we programmed at Macs (mainly Java) because our teacher was a mac freak. We had some old Quadras and even a beige G3. I never really cared about those system, they had System 7 installed, and compared to my Win98 or NT at home, it seemed "old" (I didn't knew better). Our teacher (a good programmer btw. who showed me MUCH that I didn't learn on university) then someday told us that he has to sell the Macs because the new principal said he only wants PCs in his school and no "old toys".

Man, now I really like to kill this principal. Now I can understand why the teacher was so sad to get rid of the Macs (we students where happy of course since we could now use our own "native" system (I installed Linux on mine ;))

Dude, this isn't a class as in a course for school. I work at a rather large U.S. Government installation as a Desktop Support Technician. At some point we're going to have to migrate all the users to OS X so we're trying to get our techs up to speed, support wise, with OS X. We're following this path to get our techs certified. Now if Apple would get the stuff ready for ACSA! ;)

could you please specify where this Government Installation is? :D

if Pentagon... sweet! my cousin works there! he saved 12 people on 9/11... i'll give name if you do work at the Pentagon...

No, not Pentagon. Not quite that large. I actually meant in terms of people. Actually, I am a contractor at NASA. Several thousand users. About half and half Mac/PC. Of course out of the machines we support (again around 50/50) Mac trouble calls account for about 32% of total trouble calls ;). Although, we did have a rash of junk Cubes :(

wow... must be a hard task to be a "techie" with several thousand users....

and way off topic... MTV usually has it right on what it thinks will be "cool" in the future, so they placed a G4 Cube in the new Real World Chicago house, but this time, they flopped... and for some reason, the screen looked like an older model Studio Display not like the ones Apple offers now...

It usually isn't too bad. Luckily I'm the resident Mac specialist, so I only get Mac calls. Although, I get all the really f-ed up ones! I guess it could get crazy if everyone's machines broke at the same time . We have about 15 techs total for Desktop Support. Oh, yeah there are twice as many PC techs as there are Mac techs. Everything works out pretty well.

Sorry to bring this one back up, but... I'm taking the Mac OS X Server Essentials exam tomorrow morning, at which time I'll be an official ACTC! (If, of course, I pass.)

Now to get my Press3 cert(s) ;)

this is one of those threads i somehow missed the 1st time thru. it's great to know that our govt. is using macs and going osx. of course this means there will be more viruses for macs with osx and more hackers wanting to develop mac skills. but it still makes me feel more secure somehow:)

good luck on the test:) :)

Hi

Congrats on your first exam,

I am taking mine on the 15th. Do you have any tips suggestions or hints of what to expect. I haven't taken any classes, just read the OSX books and work in a large OSX environment.

Anything will be helpful,

regards

Todd:D
