    Two Games on Clamshell iBook

Guess what? I accidentally solved the issue with StarCraft. All you need to do to make it work is go into the video setup in the starfract menu (you know, where you set the gamma and stuff) and there is a box that says "enable color cycling." Just uncheck that box and it works fine.

laptop CPU upgrade - lets talk

Doctor X, thanks for the reply. but I think you misunderstand. Money is not the issue at hand. If I was crazy about speed, I'd just go buy an intel Macbook. But the truth is, I love my clamshell and so far Apple hasn't made any laptop I like better. But in today's world it is getting...

laptop CPU upgrade - lets talk

Okay, I have a clamshell iBook 366 Mhz. Now before I hear the naysayers, let me start by saying that I am well aware the CPU is soldered to the board. I've taken these units apart many times and I know what is inside. I really like the clamshell design, but I'd sure like it if it were a bit...

How do you format or write to a DVD-RAM?

I've recently switched to Mac from Windows. I use a lot of DVD-RAM for storage. I held my breath as I inserted a DVD-RAM into my new aluminum iMac (running Leopard) and saw that it mounted the disc and I could read it. But my heart sank when I realized I couldn't write to it, or even...

12" Powerbook, bright spot on bottom of screen.

bright red spot? No, I know what a dead pixel looks like. This is nothing of the sort. It is a bit difficult to see in the picture. But an entire area almost the size of the dock is about twice as bright as the rest of the screen. It is an issue with the light-spreader, I believe. As I...

12" Powerbook, bright spot on bottom of screen.

haha. I didn't think about loud music causing vibrations. I suppose it could have been. He seemed like the type that would probably listen to gangster rap. Well, after re-assembling it, I can honestly say it is the hardest laptop disassembly/reassembly I've ever done. I was actually...

12" Powerbook, bright spot on bottom of screen.

OH MY GOD! I took this thing apart today. I have taken hundreds of laptops apart, but never in my life have I seen one so difficult to get the screen off. Well, I finally got it off but little good it did. I can't see much of anything wrong other than the lid was slightly bent. So I bent it...

12" Powerbook, bright spot on bottom of screen.

I just bought a 12" powerbook from craigslist. The guy I bought it from powered it up outside in the sunlight so I didn't notice until I drove an hour home and booted it up. The bottom of the screen towards the very center is extremely bright compared to the rest of the screen. I discovered...

    How can I "Pre-install" software?

I buy clamshell iBooks in bulk and typically resell them on ebay, craigslist, the like. One of the things I always do is upgrade the harddrive and load an operating system (usually 10.3) but I like to leave the operating system in a "fresh" state so that when they turn it on for the first time...

Help, how to share printer with windows machine?

Okay, I know how to connect a Mac to a printer which is being shared by a windows machine. That seems easy enough. But my Dad has the opposite problem in that he has a printer connected to an Intel iMac and my mom wants to print to that printer from her Windows XP machine. I can't seem to...

    Two Games on Clamshell iBook

I am a die-hard clamshell user and my main laptop is an Indigo 366 which I've upgraded the RAM to 576 and the hard drive to 30 GB. I have found a lot of older games work just fine on the unit, but there are two which I think should work, but don't. Keep in mind I'm running Mac OS X 10.3...

How fast of a Mac do I need?

I take back what I just said about the Divx movies.. I was trying to play those over the wireless connection, which I do all the time from other computers. But I guess the 802.11b is too slow for that. When I copied the movies to the harddrive and played them from there, they were fine.. well...

How fast of a Mac do I need?

This is most fascinating. I bought a 12" iBook from somebody on Craigslist. It is a 600 Mhz unit and I have installed the same operating system and run the same applications side by side with my Clamshell 366 Mhz. Guess what? There really isn't much difference in speed. Youtube videos play...

How fast of a Mac do I need?

ElDiabloConCaca, I much prefer the design of the ibook (vs. the powerbook) and especially the compact size. fryke, I disagree with your statements. A macbook of any age would most likely set me back at least $600 to $700. That costs considerably more than an older iBook. I was looking at...

How fast of a Mac do I need?

Currently I have two Macs, an aluminum Intel iMac, and an old iBook Indigo Clamshell (366 Mhz) Obviously, the iMac is plenty fast. But I'm thinking of getting a faster laptop. I do a lot of stuff on my Indigo with OS X 10.3.9 but the one thing it can't do that I'd really like is to be able to...
